Bug Candy

No, I have not flipped my mind and Yes, you read it right – Bug Candy. If you do a search on the Internet, you will find that in many countries, insects are a delicacy, eaten like crackers or peanuts. Like many other candies with peanut or cream fillings, these are just a little 'different' – their centers are actual insects! Word has it that it started out as a novelty item, but quickly caught on as an actual consumable treat!

Now, how you operate this money maker depends very much on where you are. Many countries have strict health regulations that restrict such items from being sold to the general public. You will need to check with your local laws before you start. If you do decide to go ahead, there (apparently) a variety of insects that make good fillings/centers for insect candy. Most popular are small grasshoppers and crickets. They're carefully sterilized before being immersed in candy – preferably clear – to enable customers to actually see the bug in it. Not exactly my cup or tea, but in certain countries it makes big bug$ (pun intended)!
