Proofreader

Many know the feeling… you’ve worked on a report or project for days or weeks and you submit it for printing only to find out an awful mistake was overlooked.
Alas, the report’s been printed and you’re stuck with a thousand copies of your error that will go out to all your companies branches nationwide! Fact is, many of us have such tight deadlines that proof-reading just takes too much time.
Add to that the fact that most mistakes go un-noticed by the author himself, and you’ve got a sure-fire way of making embarassing mistakes.

As a proofreader, your job is to be detailed. You MUST LOVE to read because you’ll be going through tons of material. You must have a solid command of the language you are proofreading in. That includes grammar, syntax and all the commas and hyphenated text. Add to that (usually) a tight deadline and you have a highly demanding profession that many cannot do but everybody needs. You ability to spot mistakes and correct them before the copy goes out can save time, money and a lot of “face” for your client. For this reason, many large corporations and publishing houses pay serious money to good proofreaders to do what they do best. You could be one of them.
